LOGISTICS OFFICER (KENYAN JOBS, JOBS IN KENYA JANUARY 2014)

Title: Logistics Officer (Ref.2014/02)
Location:Nairobi

Background: The Diocese of El Obeid was established in 1974 and currently operates programmes in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan, and Warap State, Twic County in South Sudan (under special agreement).
Over the last few years the Diocese of El Obeid (DoE), has responded increased needs of development and emergency programmes and more recently, the implementation of a large emergency programme funded by Trocaire and partners of Caritas International responding to the conflict in the Nuba mountains.
We are seeking suitable a suitable person to fill the following position.
The successful candidate require technical competencies, excellent oral and written communication skills (English) and computer skills (Microsoft Office Programs) and willingness to travel to field locations
Purpose: The Logistics Officer has overall responsibility for the management, co-ordination and support of logistics activities for the DoE programmes, and areas of operation.
The post holder is responsible for the effective operation of the logistics function, assets and stocks, ensuring effective, timely and accountable logistics support to all the field offices and ensuring compliance to organisational and donor procurement standards.
S/he ensures that logistics activities are conducted with efficiency, and in accordance with laid down procedures.
These include asset and inventory management, storage, transport, equipment maintenance, travel and cold chain logistics from the procurement site to the project areas of operation.
The post holder is also responsible for customs and cross border facilitations.
S/he needs to provide leadership and uphold compliance and accountability standards, and have a demonstrated ability to problem solve, and capacity build staff.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Establish and maintain a system of inventory and asset management
  • Manage activities and work relating to procurement in line with set standards
  • Visit all field stations at least once per quarter to provide technical support/advise
  • Ensure appropriate standards of warehousing for appropriate commodities and proper documentation and management system in all locations
  • Ensure appropriate allocation of vehicles for programme delivery and usage
  • Establish system for ensuring proper planning and preparation of delivery of goods and services in the most cost effective and timely manner
  • Management of the documentation of all logistics functions is in place and being used to organisational and donor standards
  • Ensure appropriate planning and preparation for staff and visitors movement
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (English) and computer skills
  • High integrity, professionalism and good stewardship of resources
Essential qualifications and experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in the fields of logistics, supply chain management or equivalent.
  • 5 years management experience in an International context, preferably in a humanitarian or conflict situation.
  • Experience managing large, complex U.S. government awards; knowledge of relevant regulations.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mind-set, good problem solving skills
  • Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner
  • Flexibility and willingness to work with incoming surge teams during emergency situations
