The National Council for Population and Development is a Semi - Autonomous Government Agency in the Ministry of Devolution and Planning.

The National Council for Population and Development intends to conduct a national survey on youth and adolescents in Kenya to provide solid evidence on how the growing youth population if properly harnessed can accelerate an economic growth in Kenya.

The Survey will identify opportunities for investing in health, education and economic development in the 47 counties that is necessary to accelerate the realization of this demographic dividend.

The Council seeks to fill the following vacant positions:

1. Population Programme Officer (1 Post)

Advert No.001/2015

Grade NCPD 6

Reports to Assistant Director of Population/Senior population Programme officer in the respective division and an officer at this level may also be deployed to a County Population Office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist in collecting data for population policy and programme use;
Assist in preparing preliminary reports for research papers;
Assist in collecting, receiving and analyzing programme data and assessing their impact on population issues;
Assist in formulating and appraisal of project proposals;
Assist in dissemination of information to the public through publications, barazas, newsletters, mass media, shows, exhibitions, conferences;
Participate in carrying out population advocacy activities.
Requirements for Appointment:

A Bachelors degree majoring in either Population Studies or Demography or its equivalent qualification from a recognized university. or
A Bachelors degree in any of the following Social Science disciplines:-
Economics, Sociology, Statistics or relevant qualification from a recognized university with a postgraduate qualification in Population Studies or Demography.
A masters degree in Population Studies or Demography will be an added advantage.
Computer application skills; and
Shown merit and competency in data collection, data processing and report writing.

Duties and Responsibilities

Research data management; Identify, sort, save, manage and retain research-generated data
Ensure an orderly, dated and secure data repository;
Ensure sufficient records are kept and can be easily retrieved
Data coding
Generating summaries
Abide by applicable research ethics, policies and procedures
Requirements for appointment

Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences
Experienced in qualitative data collection
Data interpretation of qualitative data
Knowledge of qualitative software; NUDIST, ATLAS, NVIVO is a mandatory requirement
Demonstrate interpersonal strengths
Terms of Employment: The successful candidates will be appointed on temporary basis for a period not exceeding 60 days.

They will be paid an all-inclusive daily rate of KSH. 4,000 (Four Thousand Shillings).

3. Research Assistant (RA) (32 Posts)

Duties and Responsibilities:

Attend the RAs training without fail
Be available for the field work at the required time
Together with the supervisors identify eligible members for FGD, In-depth interview, case study (narrative) and observation
Collect survey data on Youth and adolescent in their respective regions or as directed by the supervisor
Ensure quality and completion of data collection
Transcribe data on collection
Submit transcribed data to NCPD for data processing and analysis
Compile and submit an administrative field report to their supervisors
Foster team work
Safe custody of research tools and materials
Mastery of study tools and application of the same
Abide by applicable research ethics, policies and procedures.
Requirements for Appointment:

The research assistants should have the following qualifications and experience:

Hold at least a degree in sociology, Economics, Anthropology, population or communication
Must be fluent in their local language
Must demonstrate skills required for qualitative research data collection and transcription (communication, writing, listening)
Good in research techniques
Excellent communicator
Demonstrate interpersonal strengths
Must be 25 years and above
Must be available for the entire period of the survey
