RefugePoint was founded in 2005 to provide lasting solutions for the world’s most vulnerable refugees. We work to fill the critical and unmet needs of people affected by war and conflict that have fallen through the net of humanitarian assistance, in particular women, children and urban refugees.
Main purpose of the position: 
The primary responsibility of the Livelihood Assistant is to assist the Livelihood Officer to implement RefugePoint’s urban refugee livelihood program in Nairobi.

The position involves empowering and equipping refugees to engage in successful livelihood activities to improve self-sufficiency, wellbeing and integration within the urban Nairobi community.
In addition to livelihood related duties, the Livelihood Assistant is expected to carry out identification, assessment, and referral for RefugePoint clients.
Core responsibilities and duties of the position:
  • Support refugee clients to engage in sustainable livelihood activities.
  • Identify suitable refugees to engage in livelihoods and develop individual business plans for clients.
  • Train refugees in business skills (book keeping, marketing, savings, etc.)
  • Monitor the usage of cash grants or loans and evaluate client’s self-sufficiency.
  • Identify and assess refugees’ wellbeing using RefugePoint’s identification, assessment and referral tool.
  • Update physical file and database comprehensively.
  • Work extensively in field locations such as Kayole, Eastleigh and Kangemi, moving independently between refugee homes and businesses, while keeping in mind security and efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively within the urban program to ensure client’s needs are holistically met.
  • Adhere to RefugePoint’s code of conduct, Standard Operating Procedures guiding principles and uphold the highest professional ethical obligations.
  • Engage in lively discussion concerning program development and improvement.
  • Meet deadlines consistently.
  • Participate actively in staff meetings and trainings.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Livelihood Officer.
Required Skills and Expertise:
  • Diploma in development studies or other related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • More than 2 years experience directly implementing livelihood programming required.
  • Experience with small business/income generating activities and micro-finance programming preferred.
  • Experience assisting refugees and asylum seekers in an urban environment desirable;
  • Commitment to rights based, empowerment based approach. Comfortable working in multicultural environment.
  • Excellent computer skills;
  • Excellent written and spoken English, spoken Kiswahili and other languages (Somali, Oromo, Kinyamulenge, Kinyarwanda preferred);
