Senior Corporate Communications Officer (Jobs in Kenya, March 2015)

The Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA) is a State Corporation established under the National Treasury pursuant to the Unclaimed Financial Assets Act No. 40 of 2011.
The primary mandate of the Authority is to obtain unclaimed financial assets from the holders of such assets on behalf of the Government, safeguard and re-unite the assets with their rightful owners.
Senior Corporate Communications Officer

Job Profile:

  • Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, Manager, the Senior Corporate Communications Officer, will be responsible for ensuring that UFAA achieves its business objectives internally and externally, building the Authority’s impact and reputation and ensuring its future success.
  • The post holder will head UFAA’s communications function.
  • The role requires a strategic thinker with the ability to be hands-on and results-orientated, with proven leadership and successful management experience, able to manage complex projects and stakeholder relationships.
Specifically, he/she will be:-
  • Initiating, managing and delivering a corporate communications strategy to develop the Authority’s reputation, brand and relationships, ensuring that there is a clear identity and goodwill and understanding amongst the various stakeholder groups and public.
  • Developing and ensuring the strategic management of stakeholder relationships and strategies covering the
  • Government, Parliament, professional bodies, all stakeholders, public and the media.
  • Providing a strategic advisory communications function to the Chief Executive Officer, members of Board and
  • Management supporting them in their roles as ambassadors for the Authority.
  • Accountable for reputation management for the Authority; identifying and prioritizing emerging issues and handling in a timely manner.
  • Cultivating a network of strong and lasting partnerships with stakeholders in all the relevant sectors and ensure continuing support to the Authority’s mission and strategic objectives
  • Responding to a wide range of consultations and reports within the context of the policy of the Authority , its aims and objectives
  • Contributing to the delivery of the Boards communication responsibilities and objectives.
  • Establishing effective communication relationships (internal and external)
  • Formulating and implementing communications policy with other related key organisations
  • Representing the Authority at meetings, conferences and workshops and other forums to promote and articulate issues relevant to the mandate of the Authority
  • Cultivating a network of strong and lasting partnerships with stakeholders in all the relevant sectors and ensure continuing support to the Authority’s mission and strategic objectives
  • Responding to enquiries from the public, media and other organisations
  • Arranging interviews with journalists, prepare and distribute media releases, and liaise with and make statements to the media
  • Writing, editing and arranging production of newsletters, in-house magazines, pamphlets and brochures
  • Writing speeches, preparing visual aids and making public presentations and organizing special events such as open days, visits, exhibitions and functions

Technical:
  • Strong intellectual skills, track record of innovative thinking, analysis and practical activity.
  • Management experience in a complex organization, experience of organizational change.
  • Proven ability in communications and stakeholder relations.
  • Knowledge of government policy, processes and procedures will be an added advantage.
  • Capable of innovating and developing business growth and quality improvement.
  • Creativity and a flair for new initiatives.
  • Experience of delivering complex communication.
  • Comfortable presenting content to a range of audiences, including policymakers, academics, public and the media.
  • Skilled at networking and network-building; a strong commitment to partnership-working.
  • An open and participative style with excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Resilient and able to work under pressure.
  • An in-depth understanding of UFAA mandate, with the ability to respond to the changing assets management environment together with education and training knowledge.
Person Profile
  • Bachelors degree in communications, business strategy and/or project management or related field from a university recognized by the Commission for University Education.
  • Master’s degree in business administration (MBA), Law or any other related field will be an added advantage.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Over four (4) years’ experience gained in corporate communication in a senior position.
  • Membership to a relevant professional body
Terms and Conditions
Successful candidates for the above positions will be offered a competitive remuneration package.
Appointments will be on permanent terms subject to satisfactory performance.
