Job Description:
  • One Acre Fund is a rapidly growing organization; increasing the number of sublocations and districts we work in each year.
  • We are seeking individuals to manage the various complex Construction and Maintenance functions of the organization – including large scale residential construction projects.
  • You will be in charge of maintaining our current sites to the highest level using your carefully crafted team of professionals (electricians, plumbers) and making upgrades as necessary.
Primary Duties of Construction Manager
  • Manage new and ongoing construction projects.
  • Labor Management (Strict and Firm) – Directly supervise all contractors and tradesmen on all project job sites under his/her direction
  • Work to strict deadlines
  • Site Maintenance – Ensure proper maintenance of all sites including following weekly and monthly checklist systems.
  • Manage regular maintenance staff.
  • Quality Control – Ensure projects are of the highest possible quality.
  • Create tight and honest budgets.
  • Updating budgets and schedules weekly. Recording actual costs.
  • Creating project schedules/work plans
  • Improve upon and develop new tracking tools, task management, and ways to reduce cost whilst improving quality of construction and maintenance.
  • Weekly Project Update Meeting with Supervisor.
  • Manage the grounds keeping staff
  • Miscellaneous – Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:
  • We are seeking exceptional professionals with 2-4 years of work experience in construction management, engineering or architecture with great leadership skills.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities Required:
  • A Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering, Building and Construction, Architecture or other relevant field from recognized college and universities
  • High energy and willingness to progress in your career
  • Great motivation to lead and serve
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in construction, architecture or engineering
  • Experience with regard to designing, planning, implementation, supervising and reporting on construction and maintenance projects
  • Master of generally accepted construction techniques
  • High attention to detail with regards to quality
  • Extremely organized
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision
  • Hard working (occasionally willing to put in time outside of normal working hours)
  • Creative problem solver
  • Independent and motivated

  • Knowledge of grounds keeping and landscaping preferred
  • Proficiency in computing, data, budgets and IT.
  • Fluency in English essential
  • Must be based in Bungoma, Kenya or willing to travel/relocate.

Architect (Kenyan Jobs, Jobs in Kenya March 2014)

Title: Architect
Job Summary:
The purpose of this position in the organization is to ensure creation of unique and acceptable designs within the customer needs and expectations by inspiring the production team and supervising their work so as to deliver within set deadlines.

It involves direct contact with the client to understand their needs and overall supervision of projects at the site.
Key Duties
  • Attend brief initial meetings with clients to understand their needs
  • Initial site visit to get details about access, infractructure such as sewer,location,climatic factors,soil.topography etc to facilitate conceptualization of the design
  • Conceptualization of client briefs, preparation of preliminary design and outline proposal
  • Assume the lead consultant role, schedule meetings, take minutes and distribute through mails
  • Draw scheme design for approval at the local authority
  • Send out contractor tenders, shortlist and evaluate, visit contractor site and award in the presence of client
  • Outsource the Quantity surveyor, structural and surface engineer
  • Prepare and negotiate with the client the consultant’s contract,terms,deliverables,duties,timelines,scope of works and the fees and the breakdown of the total contracts sum
  • Overseas the site handover work from client to contractor
  • Organise and attend site meetings for supervision and inspection on a weekly basis
  • Prepare progress reports for the client and send them promptly
  • Monitor the actual project cost versus the budgeted cost
  • Handover site to client at the end of the project
  • In-charge of supervising technicians and model makers during production of schematic drawings, physical and electronic models
  • Verify the accuracy and practicality of designs/drawings going to the site
  • Handle correspondences and any other mails from within or from the contractor office or client
  • Report the progress of the project to the management
  • Any other as may be prescribed from time by your supervisor
  • Supervising assistant architect, Technical and model makers.
Requirements
  • Must have a Bachelor of Architecture degree
  • More than three years experience
  • Ability to troubleshoot site challenges through early identification of issues and amicably solve them at minimal cost
  • Ability to cope with multiple production demands
  • Good supervision skills of the technicians and model makers
  • Independent, reliable and hardworking
  • Should be creative, analytical and detailed
  • A team player
Starting salary is 100k+ depending on experience.

Title: Senior Architect

A leading architectural company based in Nairobi is seeking to recruit a Senior Architect.

Responsibilities
  • Must be capable of delivering projects from development of inception through to practical completion.
  • Competent design skills, technical skills, supervision and programming of jobs is essential.
  • Be fully conversant with the Nairobi City Council building legislation and building by-laws in Kenya, in general.
  • Ensure that the CISFB numbering/coding system has been properly implemented.
  • Fully conversant with CADD drawing office procedure contained in the office manual.
  • Identify any discrepancies in CADD manual that requires the attention of the resident director.
Qualifications.
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in architecture.
  • Must be registered with the Architects Registration Board.
  • Must be a holder of a valid passport.
  • Must have knowledge of the building by-laws.
  • Must have local authority submission procedures.
  • Must have knowledge of the business world in which the group operates.
  • Knowledge of tropical world architectural issues is desirable.
Monthly gross salary: Ksh.300,000 – 500,000(Approx. 3,500 – 5,800USD)depending on experience
