Universities in North Carolina founded RTI in 1958 as a centerpiece of the Research Triangle Park. In Kenya, RTI implements programs in health and education.

TAYARI is a Ministry of Education, Science and Technology that focuses on improving quality of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) systems. It seeks to develop cost-effective, scalable models of ECDE that ensures pre-primary aged children are mentally, physically, socially and emotionally ready to start, and succeed, in primary school. The position will be based in Nairobi, with some travel within the country.

The Senior Education Program Specialist will provide technical support for the implementation of TAYARI Project in four (4) counties in Kenya. She/he will supervise technical teams in the four offices to implement the technical activities of the Programme. She/he will collaborate with field teams to support County ECDE officers, Ministry of Education Science &Technology (MOEST) and Teacher Service Commission (TSC) county officers to implement the instructional approaches and support effective local capacity building. The Sr. Education Specialist, will report to the Chief of Party and will supervise the work of the Regional Education Program Officers for quality and timely delivery, and provide support and technical inputs. In addition she/he will provide support to District Centres for Early Childhood Education (DICECE) and instructional coaches in the implementation of TAYARI Project. The Senior Education Specialist will conduct regular visits to the four counties to maintain a clear understanding of field issues and ensure common understanding. She/he will conduct and organize field visits to ECDE centers to provide ongoing technical support, evaluate program effectiveness, identify obstacles and institute remedial measures. She/he will support regular progress monitoring and reporting. The assignment is designed to provide high level technical support for effective project implementation.

Required qualifications and experience: Minimum 8 years’ experience in management and coordination of development projects in education sector. Master’s degree in Education or in a related field. S/he needs to have proven record in teacher training, teacher management, and experience supervising education officers. Significant experience in education development for ECDE, materials development and design experience. Familiarity with the policies and procedures of the Ministry of Education, Science & Technology, the Teachers’ Service Commission, county level education leadership and local school communities is required. Excellent managerial, supervisory and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills. Excellent oral and written 

English and Kiswahili language proficiency is required.

Busara Center for Behavioral Economics is a research organization that seeks to improve the understanding of how people living in poverty make decisions and to leverage that knowledge to produce better social outcomes.


It enables researchers to conduct rigorous laboratory-based studies in behavioral economics in a developing country and applying the outcomes of research to real-world problems.This research will be working with the Busara Center for Behavioral Economics and Bridge International Academies to assess the effectiveness and impact of their unique school curriculum. 

Field Officers will be working with schools nationwide to assess and measure student performance, teacher motivation, and effects of education on family livelihoods.

The research study will be conducted in 15-20 counties across Kenya and will require significant travel. Working outside of regular business hours (in the morning or in the evening) will sometimes be necessary.

As a Field Officer, the responsibilities will include, but are not limited to;
  • Must work well within a fast-paced team to meet high-pressure daily and weekly deadlines
  • Facilitate pre-primary education programs and initiatives including ECD
  • Conduct exams and individual surveys with children in the ECD age range
  • Conducting school community consultative meetings
  • Sensitize community to universal primary education
Job Requirements:

3. Administration Officer

The In-STEP Administration Officer is responsible for managing the implementation of the Increased Skills for Tertiary Education Program (InSTEP) of the Borderless Higher Education for Refugees (BHER) project in Dadaab. 

InSTEP prepares students to undertake studies in the BHER university programmes and is coordinated by World University Service Canada (WUSC) and Windle Trust Kenya (WTK). 

The InSTEP Administration Officer reports to the BHER Project Liaison Officer (PLO) in Dadaab, and liaises with WTK, Nairobi, Kenya and WUSC in Ottawa, Canada in consultation with PLO. 

This is a one-year position, with the possibility of renewal dependent on performance and the evolving needs of the project.

Qualifications
A degree in Education with at least 4 years of proven experience in effective and efficient management of Kenya education with high quality outputs.
An understanding of management of University education;
Excellent planning, analytical, conceptual and organizational skills.
Ability to motivate students to perform maximally. Ability to communicate well, be an effective team-player and problem solver are required.
Proven knowledge of Kenya Education systems
Mastery of office software (MS Word, Excel, and Power Point) required.
Able and willing to live, work, travel in fast-paced and environment adhering to strict security guidelines.
Proficiency in English language is required.

4. Programme Development Officer

Reporting to the Programme Development Manager the Programme Development Officer provides broad managerial support to the development, implementation and evaluation of funded activities.

The PDO plays a key role in assisting country programmes with the development of annual work-plans and new programme initiatives, monitoring of programme implementation and with documenting and reporting program results

Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in management, development studies, education or related discipline
Minimum five (3) years of experience working in programme development, implementation and monitoring
Proven experience with management and monitoring of development programmes in education, including identifying and addressing programmatic, financial, administrative, and logistics needs area
Excellent oral/written communications, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills
Demonstrated experience working in teams, as well as, working independently with minimum supervision
Excellent good proposal and report writing skills
Good planning and analytical capacities Mastery of office software (MS Word, Excel, and Power Point) required.

5. Education Officer

The Education Officer will be in charge of implementation of KEEP Project in Dadaab Refugee Camp.

Key Responsibilities
Responsible for, coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of education activities in collaboration with education staff and partners.
Provision of adequate and timely technical guidance, supervision, capacity building and management support
Promote quality girl-child education programmes.
Promote community self-management in relation to the running of secondary schools.
Provide essential physical facilities and instructional materials to schools

Qualifications
A degree in Education with at least 4 years of proven experience in effective and efficient management of Kenya education with high quality outputs.
Excellent planning, analytical, conceptual and organizational skills.
Ability to motivate staff and students to perform maximally and a good team-player.
Proven knowledge of Kenya Education systems and rich networks with Key MOE officials.
Superior writing skills, including proven ability to conceive and write grant proposals and donor reports.
Mastery of office software (MS Word, Excel, and Power Point) required.

6. Storekeeper
The storekeeper is responsible of receiving, storing, issuing supplies, updating stores records and ensuring accountability of the stores systems.

Qualifications
Degree in purchasing and supplies or storehouse management
Member of CIPS or KISM
Knowledge of public procurement and disposal Act and regulations
At least 3 years practical experience in stores management
Mastery of office software (MS Word, Excel, and Power Point) required.
Good interpersonal and public relationship

7. Accounts Officer
The accounts officer will be responsible for monthly consolidation of accounts and preparation of quarterly financial statement. 

The AO will prepare monthly floats, update financial records and general ledger, prepare payment vouchers and assist in preparation of financial reports. 

The AO will ensure clear internal audit trails, external audit support, be involved in budgeting, development of account systems and procedures and Safe custody of all financial data and maintenance of fixed assets register

Qualifications
A Bachelor of Commerce (accounting/Finance option)/ Bachelor of business administration from a recognized University
A holder of CPA III (k) final or ACCA (final )
Must be a member of a professional body (ICPAK/ACCA) and of good standing
QuickBooks is a must
Possesses 3 years financial/accounting experience
Must be computer literate

8. Logistics Officer
The Logistics Officer is Overall in-charge for overseeing all aspects of logistics functions: planning, directing, warehousing, distribution, forecasting and reporting of relevant operations.

Logistics Officer will facilitate receipts, sorting out, logging and transportation of materials to user destinations.

The LO will manage logistics personnel, procurement and storekeepers.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics or related field with additional professional training in procurement and logistics management
A minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role preferably
Mastery of office software (MS Word, Excel, and Power Point) required.
Good interpersonal and public relationship

Senior Education Officer – 1 Position
The SEO will be based in Dadaab Camp and shall be responsible for coordinating and overseeing operational plans in the Education Department. The incumbent will report directly to the Area Coordinator or her designate, while working closely on daily basis with Education staff  other sectors of LWF.
Duties and responsibilities will include:
Setting short and medium term primary education unit program plans and budgets in liaison with the EC and plans and monitors performance against those plans.
Assisting with planning and design of primary education activities and measures of achievement and collecting data for LWF/DWS primary education unit performance monitoring plan, especially with regard to education indicators.
Overall in charge of school supplies (teaching and learning materials which includes: Making requisitions on quarterly basis of the required school materials and equipment, Distribution of the same to all schools in good time for appropriate utilization; also in overseeing data collection and analysis in schools.
Ensuring regular communication and interaction between the Education Sector Management staff and teachers, and the school management committees, Refugee Education committees, District Education Office, and other development partners and agencies.
Monitoring progress and impact of the primary education unit through regular school visits.
Reviewing annual work plans and activity plans of the unit for comprehensiveness, clarity and adherence to LWF/DWS Somali Refugee Assistant Project-Dadaab goals and objectives.
Working with teachers and others to ensure the meaningful participation of learners in all aspects of the unit
Arranging the sharing of ideas between teachers and schools and coordinating the work of head teachers, school management committees and school inspectors in the camp.
Ensuring effective evaluation of learners to see that schools are in line with the Kenya Schools Curriculum, and noting changes required in curriculum or teaching methods.

Professional Qualification:
Preferable a degree in education. A social science degree in a related discipline would also be considered.
Proven training in curriculum development and implementation, and educational administration.
Proven academic or on-job training and understanding of the Project Cycle model in managing humanitarian assistance.

Relevant Experience:
At least 4 years of progressive experience in primary education programs for refugees or rural communities.
Experience gained within an international humanitarian NGO will be an added advantage.
Strong analytical and administration skills in the management of education/programs consisting of primary education.
Experience in project cycle management, proposal, report writing and excellent computer skills.
Experience in Training of Trainers/Facilitators skills (TOT  TOF) an advantage.

The AVU has its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya and a Regional office in Dakar Senegal with Host-Country Agreements and Diplomatic Status with the two governments.
The AVU Business Plan 2009-2014 has two main thrusts: (a) Educational and support services provided on a fee basis; and (b) Not-for-profit development services. The Not-for-profit development services
aims at building the capacity of AVU Partner Institutions (PIs) with an objective of increasing access to quality education through the following activities: updating and developing content; Open Educational Resources (OER) Development; AVU Capacity Enhancement Program (ACEP); set up/upgrade ODeL centers; developing professional networks through Communities of Practices; Research and Development; and Quality Evaluation and Benchmarking.
Some of the Not-for-profit development services were delivered from 2005 to 2011 through the AVU Multinational Project I, funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and implemented in 10 African countries.
The AfDB is funding a second phase of the Multinational Project which will build on the first phase and will extend its benefits to more countries. The overall objective of the AVU Multinational Project II is to strengthen the capacity of the AVU and a network of 27 institutions to deliver and manage quality ICT integrated education and training opportunities in 21 African countries. The project has the following activities: (1) Establishment of new Open Distance and eLearning (ODeL) Centers and/or upgrading of exiting AVU Learning Centers as well as Internet connectivity provision at AVU Partner Institutions; (2) Development and/or improvement, and delivery of four ICT integrated Programs: AVU Capacity Enhancement Program (ACEP); Teacher Education (TE), Computer Science (CS), and Peace and Conflict Resolution; (3) Gender Mainstreaming, (4) Research and Development; (5) Promotion and development of Open Education Resources (OERs); and (6) Enhancement of AVU Capacity .
The AVU Multinational Project II will be implemented in 27 AVU Partner Institutions in the following 21 countries: nine (9) Francophone African Countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal; three (3) Lusophone African Countries: Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau and Mozambique; and nine (9) Anglophone African Countries: Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, and Tanzania.
To successfully implement the enhancement of the capacity of AVU, the organization wishes to engage a well experienced Program Officer - Research, who will be responsible for setting up a Research Unit at AVU and for the implementation of the AVU Research and Development Agenda.

2.0. SCOPE OF WORK
1. Provide support in the implementation of the AVU research and development agenda.
2. Assist with writing, editing and research projects.
3. Process and track proposal and manuscript submissions for the AVU conferences and online journal.
4. Conduct initial review of conference and journal submissions for compliance with required guidelines and correspond with authors in a timely fashion on their submissions.
5. Operate online peer-review software to facilitate the peer review process including uploading files, and ensuring a timely peer review process.
6. Communicate issues raised by editorial management to authors, editors and reviewers.
7. Assist authors, reviewers, and editors by responding to queries by email and phone.
8. Liaise with copy-editors, compositors and proof readers.
9. Troubleshoot routine conference proposals and manuscript issues, provide input on discussions and escalate issues when appropriate.
10. Provide support as needed to the editorial board.
11. Assist with the organization and logistical support for the AVU annual conference.
12. Assist with press, website updates and marketing of the conferences and the journal.
13. Maintain and regularly update peer reviewer database.
14. Maintain relevant statistics on the conferences and online journal.
15. Other duties as assigned by management.

3.0. EXPECTED DELIVERABLES
1. Online and open peer-reviewed journal supported.
2. Organization of annual conferences supported.
3. Conference and online journal submissions processed.
4. Peer-reviewer database maintained and updated.
5. Marketing and press on conferences and online journal supported.
6. Support provided to editors and editorial board.
7. Support provided to AVU Research & Development activities.

4.0. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Languages (English/French), Education or related discipline. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Educational training and some experience in conducting scholarly research including skills in literature review, research design, data collection, analysis and reporting.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, background in working for a publication (preferably academic) would be an advantage.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to collaborate with individuals from different location and cultures.
  • Self-starter and able to take initiative.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Language: Bilingual French-English. Ability to write and communicate proficiently in both French and English. Knowledge of Portuguese will be an added advantage.
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office, Power Point, Excel, Access, Internet Skills.


5.0. MODALITIES OF WORK This is a full time employment.

6.0 DURATION 2 years renewable.

7.0 REPORTING The Research Assistant will report to the Manager, Research & Development

8.0 PAYMENT

The salary will be commensurate with the qualification and experience of the successful candidate.
