The positions are field based and aspiring candidates should be willing to reside and work under basic but gradually improving living conditions. The positions will initially be for a period of 12 months but renewable depending on availability of new donor funding.

The Position
Key Responsibilities: 
Under the supervision of the Project Manager and in collaboration with other technical staff, the position holder will: 
  1. Provide expertise to acquire, manage, manipulate, and analyze data and report results 
  2. In collaboration with others, develop and maintain databases and systems necessary for projects and departmental functions 
  3. Acquire and abstract primary or secondary data from existing internal or external data sources 
  4. In collaboration with others, develop and implement data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality 
  5. Perform data entry either manually or using scanning technology, when needed or required 
  6. In collaboration with others, interpret data and develop recommendations based on findings 
  7. Develop graphs, reports and presentations of project results 
  8. Perform basic statistical analyses for projects and reports 
  9. Create and present quality dashboards 
  10. Generate routine and ad hoc reports 
Knowledge, skills and experience 
  • Technical skills regarding data models and database design development 
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint 
  • Experience in using SAS, SPSS or other statistical packages is desirable for handling large datasets 
  • Programming skills preferred. Adept at queries and report writing 
  • Knowledge of statistics, at least to the degree necessary in order to communicate easily with statisticians 
  • Experience in data mining techniques and procedures and knowing when they use is appropriate 
  • Ability to present complex information in an understandable and compelling manner 
  • Bachelors/Diploma in information management, livestock information, computing, mathematics, or related field 
  • Agriculture/livestock/natural resources background or experience 
  • At least 3 years previous data analyst experience

The Position

Key Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Project Manager/Team Leader, the position holder will implement small and medium enterprise development activities. Key responsibilities will include: 

  1. Actively engage in program activity and budget planning in accordance with the objectives, work plan and the budget of the South Sudan programme. 
  2. Conduct feasibility studies to support groups/entrepreneurs in establishing various small scale agricultural-based and natural resources related businesses 
  3. Support organizational and business skills development for agricultural and related small scale commodities producers and traders 
  4. Facilitate market linkage trips/study tours for producers and traders 
  5. Support the further development of private agricultural and livestock services delivery 
  6. Support up-coming youth entrepreneurs in various fields 
  7. Promotional activities for market-oriented agro-pastoralism 
  8. Conduct periodic M & E of the established agribusinesses and document best practices 
  9. Support the development of new project concepts and proposals drawing on the best practices 
  10. Prepare outreach information packages to disseminate the available information through radio, magazines, workshops, meetings, posters and brochures. 
  11. Linkage of entrepreneurs with micro-finance institutions 
  12. Assist in training of VSF staff and community groups in basic marketing strategies making use of the information collected. 
  13. Assist in the preparation of a series of workshops aiming to develop specific value chains and to formulate county-based agri-business development strategies 
  14. Assist in the establishment of Farmers-Traders platforms in the counties in conjunction with local Chambers of Commerce Mobilize communities and participate in project needs and opportunity assessments and advice accordingly.

Qualifications, Experience, Attributes & Skills required 

  • Degree in General Agricultural Marketing, Agribusiness, Cooperatives or related field. 
  • 3-5 years of experience focused in the management of transitional and development programs 
  • Experience working in an NGO setting 
  • Experience and knowledge in the design and implementation of agricultural marketing projects for individuals or groups, especially small scale farmers and agro-pastoralists

LIVESTOCK OFFICER (3 POSTS)

The Position
Key Responsibilities:

  2. Oversee the implementation of the project activities in the assigned geographical area based on the activity logframe and approved work plans. 
  3. Carry out training needs assessments and undertake refresher and new training courses for Community Animal Health Workers and local veterinary counterparts on basic animal healthcare service skills 
  4. Supervise and provide professional advice on technical aspects of local veterinary health staff in their work. 
  5. Facilitate community dialogue meetings for project awareness creation and general community sensitization and document the outcome. 
  6. Facilitate all training sessions and document the outcome through written reports 
  7. Facilitate and coordinate all livestock healthcare services activities, including cattle camp visits to monitor the activities of the animal health workers and provide on the job training/instructions on basic technical skills.

The Position

The positions will be tenable in Unity, Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Warrap States. Under the supervision of the Project Manager and in collaboration with other technical staff, the position holders will: 
  1. Conduct mapping of community based resources for psycho-social support. 
  2. Create community awareness on the psycho-social needs of children and families adversely affected by armed conflict. 
  3. Train community based structures in the programme area to identify, manage and refer children and families experiencing psycho-social related problems 
  4. Identify and promote good cultural practices and activities in the community, which enhance recovery of affected children and their families in the programme. 
  5. Organize structured/semi structured recreational activities for children in the programme and those of the surrounding communities, which promote positive socialization and coexistence. 
  6. Undertake social work follow up to support smooth co-habitation between children, their families and their communities 
  7. Ensure that children receive ongoing support with their economic reintegration activities and assess the overall well-being of each child.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT- OPERATIONS

The Organization

The World Agroforestry Centre is an independent research institution which generates science-based knowledge about the complex role trees play in agricultural landscapes and rural livelihoods. As part of the Centre’s work to bring tree-based solutions to bear on poverty and environmental problems, researchers – working in close collaboration with partners – are developing new technologies, tools and policy recommendations for increased food security and ecosystem health.

The Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted in 23 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We are supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and receive funding from over 50 different donors.

The Job
 Work closely with the Head of Operations, the Assistant Operations Manager (Facilities) and other teams in Corporate Services in coordinating the overall administrative functions of the Unit in order to ensure delivery of efficient and cost effective services to a wide range of clients.

Duties and responsibilities:
  1. Arranging and coordinating the Units’ diary of works including organizing the Units’ and the service providers’ monthly meetings.
  2. Receiving and coordinating all the Units procurement needs which includes follow up with the procurement Unit and FSU to ensure timely delivery of goods/services.
  3. Assisting the Head of Operations in developing, implementing and monitoring the Units annual Programme of Work and Budget including chargebacks for all services provided by the Unit.
  4. In consultation with the other administrators and the audiovisual officer serve as the focal point for all meetings/workshops and symposia taking place at Headquarters. This will include: working closely with FSU to ensure timely chargebacks on air ticket service charges, verification of invoices from the outsourced Travel Agent, client invoicing, management of the Meals and Incidentals function and liaising with the local hotels on accommodation.
  5. Being the Centre’s focal point for all insurance related matters which include the management of institutional and staff motor insurance schemes and procurement of insurance covers for institutional assets at HQ and the regions, following up on the payments of all approved invoices for insurance debits, and securing credits. And in consultation with the insurance service provider initiate the quarterly service review meetings.
  6. Work closely with the Procurement Unit, institutions collaborating with ICRAF and others, in the search processes for service providers, specifically those directly related to the Operations Unit.
  7. Assist the Head of Operations in the management of outsourced service contracts including Service Level Agreements  related to:- Mail and Front Office, Travel, Taxi and Staff Group Transport, Pool & Project Vehicles and Catering
  8. Manage the day to day operations of the ICRAF group transport by working closely with the bus monitors and service providers to ensure compliance to the agreed upon Service Level Agreements.
  9. As a member of the Health and Safety Committee, work together with the Security Manager, Assistant Operations Manager (Facilities), the Head of Operations and other units in identifying and addressing OH&S issues.
  10. Any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
 Qualifications and experience
  1. A degree in Business Administration or its equivalent.
  2. Three (3) years’ experience with an international organization preferably in a facility        management setting;
  3. Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
  4. Ability to coordinate, prioritize, and organize workload;
  5. Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure with minimal supervision;

RESEARCH ASISSTANT/OFFICER

About LVCT
Liverpool VCT, Care & Treatment (LVCT) is an established Kenyan NGO that utilizes research to inform policy reform advocacy and strengthen HIV service delivery. We optimize our impact on the HIV/AIDS response by building capacity of partners and pay special attention to vulnerable groups and populations with special needs. LVCT’s focus is on the scale-up of quality-assured HIV counseling, testing and care services.

About the position
LVCT requires a short term research assistant, with a possibility for long-term engagement at the end of 6 months. The research assistant will support a project that aims to operationalize counsellor supported disclosure (CSD) as recommended in the national HIV Testing and Counselling guidelines. Counsellor supported disclosure will be implemented to increase HIV status disclosure and partner testing among couples. The project will also increase service providers’ skills in providing supported disclosure, pilot a standard counsellor supported disclosure training curriculum and provide evidence for feasibility of integration of counsellor supported disclosure as routine service delivery in standalone HIV Testing and counselling sites

Scope of work:
1. Undertake a literature review and develop a research protocol
2. Provide technical expertise into the development of a training curriculum for counsellors
3. Develop and pilot a CSD intervention that is integrated into routine service delivery

Qualifications and qualities:
1. An undergraduate degree in a relevant field. A Master’s degree is desirable.
2. Technical knowledge of HIV
3. Self-driven and able to work under pressure
4. Ability to engage with and provide technical assistance to policy makers and programme staff

Specific duties and responsibilities:
  • Attending to phone calls with keen phone handling protocols;
  • Responding to enquiries, problem or concerns of IEBC callers;

Recruitment Requirements:

The International School of Kenya is seeking to employ an Assistant Librarian for Technology who will be responsible for managing technology in the library and assisting teachers and librarians with classes. The Recruitment Profile for the position is attached.

Reports To: Librarians
Scope of Work:  The Assistant Librarian for Technology will assist students and other patrons with managing technology in the library.  The Assistant Librarian for Technology provides assistance to students, teachers, and all members of the ISK community to make the best possible use of the Library Media Center and its resources.  The librarians will determine the daily responsibilities concerning this position. 

Specific Responsibilities:
  1. Work as a collaborative member of the library/technology team
  2. Assist students with computer technology in the library including access to databases, searching, scanning, and applications such as photo albums, movie making and publishing software
  3. Assist patrons find needed materials and checks out books
  4. Keep library technology (e.g. Kindles and laptops) charged, cleaned and in working order.
  5. Assist teacher-librarians as needed with classes
  6. Manage students who are using the library independently, particularly after school hours
  7. Help to trouble shoot printing and computer problems in the library
  8. Assist in maintaining the library collections, including assisting in processing new books, shelving and maintaining books in the library
  9. Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Librarians
Required Skills and Qualifications:

COMMUNITY MOBILIZERS (3 POSTS)- FH/ Kenya

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
  • Community mobilization and sensitization on the goals and objective of the program
  • Conduct community level trainings  under the supervision of the Project office

  • Collect and Compile appropriate data from the field.
  • Participate in special surveys and evaluations carried out in relation to the program.
  • Monitor and review all required and relevant records at the relevant Community institutions supported by the program
  • Conducting regular meetings with Community leaders and beneficiaries on relevant issues.
  • Solicit the support of local leaders and identify the right beneficiaries at the project level
  • Provide support to all local FH staff, church and community leaders, and partner agencies to identify development issues of the community and develop solutions utilizing community and agency resources.
  • Act as a technical resource person to the community in issues related to soil conservation, environmental conservation, and agro forestry, and range management.
  • Mobilize community members by organizing meetings and training's related to meeting FH pastoral livelihoods program goals and objectives.
  • Live in the community and fully participate with the local churches in telling and showing the Good News of Jesus Christ.
  • Adhere to Christian principles pertaining to good moral behavior and conduct, honesty and integrity.
  • Other duties as requested by the Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE (MINIMUM)
  1. Diploma in community development or social work ,animal production, Agricultural sciences, animal health or in related field

PROJECT MANAGERS (2 POSITIONS)- VSF GERMANY

Background:
VSF Germany is an International Non-Governmental Organization, providing humanitarian aid and development assistance to pastoralists and vulnerable communities in areas where livestock is of importance. In the region, VSF Germany implements activities in South Sudan, North Sudan, Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia. With support in animal health, agriculture, marketing, food security but also with developing the capacity of communities and governmental institutions or initiating peace and conflict resolution, we work towards food security and strengthened livelihoods of pastoralist communities. VSF Germany seeks to recruit two (2) qualified and well experienced Project Managers to oversee the implementation of a UNICEF funded project in Upper Nile and Jonglei States in South Sudan. These are field based position.

Key responsibilities:
  • The incumbent will be responsible for the projects implementation.
  • Ensure the project implementation progress is in line with the activity work plan.
  • Permanently monitor activities and report progress to the Head of Programmes

About the position
To support our social initiatives in Kenya and Tanzania, we are looking for a Business Development Officer who will be responsible for developing the Social Business portfolio by creating, developing and monitoring social business cases and projects. S/he works closely with colleagues in the regional/program area offices and with partner organizations in Kenya and Tanzania. S/he will actively build and maintain relationships with external parties and support activities in the area of project management, communications, administration and fundraising. The position will be based in Nairobi, with frequent travels to ICS programme areas.

Responsibilities

  • Formulation and development of business cases in Africa in consultation with staff and partners
  • Development of business plans and proposals and support in fundraising efforts
  • Initiating and maintaining relationships with relevant networks, partners and investors
  • Provide support and manage specific projects/initiatives throughout the project/business cycle
  • Facilitate internal and external learning and sharing on business case development and implementation
Requirements
A degree preferably in economics, agricultural economics, business administration or other relevant field. Experience in agricultural business development and familiarity with lending to farmers’ associations and MSEs. At least five years of relevant professional experience with a reputable NGO, project or private sector organization; Knowledge of microfinance, market development approaches, value chain development and making markets work for the poor will be an added advantage.
