Project Manager (Mixed Migration Monitoring Mechanism Initiative) (Kenyan Jobs, Jobs in Kenya April 2014)

Title: Project Manager (Mixed Migration Monitoring Mechanism Initiative)
The overall objective of the RMMS is to support governments, agencies, institutions and forums in the Horn of Africa and Yemen sub-region to improve the management of protection and assistance response to people in mixed migration flows in the Horn of Africa and across the Gulf of Aden or Red Sea in Yemen.
Currently, the secretariat is a small unit co-located with the Danish Refugee Council’s regional office (Horn of Africa and Yemen) in Nairobi, Kenya which hosts and supports the RMMS.
The key responsibilities of the Project Manager will include;
  • To oversee the operations, management and accounting of the 4Mi project.
  • To identify partners, key informants, contacts and other interlocutors critical to the success of this project.
  • To manage a team of sentinel monitor in different countries using digital technology to survey mixed migration.
  • To establish close working relations with relevant existing mixed migration-related agencies in different countries in order to share data and maximize the data inflow of information and statistics for the 4Mi project.
  • To manage and organize data and be adept at analysis and interpretation of data.
  • To maintain relationships with contacts and informants in multiple countries who will be members of the ‘platform’ on which 4Mi will be built.
  • To work under the supervision of the RMMS Coordinator in Nairobi and as a DRC contractor.
  • To visit a wide range of countries in the region on a regular and continuous basis.
Requirements:
  • A graduate with at least 3 years’ experience from the aid sector and/or journalism, communication and information technology sector,
  • a well-motivated, self- starter who can work independently with excellent communication skills;
  • strong ability to make rapid assessments and sound judgments with little support,
  • must be able to travel more than 50% of the time in this role and be prepared to visit and work in remote locations;
  • flexibility and resourcefulness;
  • experience in data gathering systems, migration and ICT may be an advantage but not a requirement.
