About VSF- Suisse

VSF-Suisse is an International NGO, supporting humanitarian, food security, livelihoods and development programs the Horn of Africa region since 1995. 

In its South Sudan Program, the organization currently implements projects funded by the EU, USAID/OFDA, UNDP, UNICEF and FAO in Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Unity and Warrap States. The program aims to enhance improved livelihoods and self-reliance of target beneficiaries through (i) improved crops-livestock production practices; (ii) livestock assets protection through emergency veterinary services; (iii) appropriate crops, livestock and livestock products value addition and marketing; (iv) supporting institution and capacity building to relevant partner Ministries in the Republic of South Sudan and the private sector and, (v) facilitating economic reintegration of vulnerable groups into agro-pastoral livelihoods through livestock assets re-distribution, vocational skills training and IGAs.
VSF-Suisse seeks to fill the following position immediately for the South Sudan Program. The positions are field based and aspiring candidates should be willing to reside and work under basic but gradually improving living conditions. The positions will initially be for a period of 12 months but renewable depending on availability of new donor funding.


The Position

The positions will be tenable in Unity, Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Warrap States. Under the supervision of the Project Manager and in collaboration with other technical staff, the position holders will: 
  1. Conduct mapping of community based resources for psycho-social support. 
  2. Create community awareness on the psycho-social needs of children and families adversely affected by armed conflict. 
  3. Train community based structures in the programme area to identify, manage and refer children and families experiencing psycho-social related problems 
  4. Identify and promote good cultural practices and activities in the community, which enhance recovery of affected children and their families in the programme. 
  5. Organize structured/semi structured recreational activities for children in the programme and those of the surrounding communities, which promote positive socialization and coexistence. 
  6. Undertake social work follow up to support smooth co-habitation between children, their families and their communities 
  7. Ensure that children receive ongoing support with their economic reintegration activities and assess the overall well-being of each child. 
  8. Prepare and timely submit high-quality project progress reports according to donor requirements.. 
  9. Represent VSF Suisse in state/county level child protection sub-cluster meetings . 
  10. Prepare and submit project imprest requests and periodic field work plans based on the project logframe and budgets to the supervisor for processing. 
  11. Manage the field base location in the absence of senior staff and be responsible for the preparation of monthly field base asset inventory for submission to the supervisor 
  12. Liaison with community leaders, local government officials, NGOs, UN-bodies and other partners wherever appropriate and required. 
  13. Maintain daily communications with the supervisor on all issues relating to weather, security, project activities, staff movement and welfare issues, 
Qualifications, Experience, Attributes & Skills required 
  1. Diploma in Social work from a recognized institution 
  2. At least 3 years field working experience as a social worker. 
  3. Experience in carrying out assessments, baseline surveys, monitoring and community participatory evaluation exercises. 
  4. Experience in gender sensitive participatory approaches in community development work 
  5. Excellent organizational, managerial and report writing skills. 
  6. Excellent communication skills, interpersonal relations, and conflict resolution abilities 
  7. Excellent computer skills and demonstrable track record of managing a successful team 
  8. Ability to work in multicultural team and strict adherence to rules, regulations and guidelines 
  9. Knowledge and experience of working with agro-pastoral communities will be an added advantage 
  10. Fluency in Nuer and Dinka languages as appropriate will be an added advantage
