Pack House Manager – Southern Highlands, Tanzania

Our client based in Tanzania’s southern highlands, whose project is Growing and Exporting Fruits is looking for a Pack House Manager. The ideal candidate MUST have prior experience in a Packhouse.

Key Responsibilities;

• Manage all packhouse operations.
• Optimise packhouse operational efficiency.
• Optimise quality of produce from the packhouse with zero rejections.
• Ensure machinery is properly maintained.
• Ensure compliance with processing standards as set by the market.
• Ensure packhouse employees are properly trained.
• Support management team to ensure a cohesive and effectiveness.
• To supervise grading staff to ensure all quality standards are added to for packed fruit for export.
• Liaise with marketing personnel to determine how much fruit, of which type, is to be dispatched where.
• Ensure fruit of the correct quantity and quality is delivered to the packhouse to meet the market requirements.
• Closely monitor out grower fruit deliveries at the reception point to ensure quality is maintained.
• Liaise with freight handlers and shippers to ensure suitable containers are delivered on time.
• Allocate appropriate resources within the packhouse –daily and longer term.
• Train, motivate and discipline staff.
• Determine and prepare written procedures and protocols for all operations within the packhouse.
• Check machinery operation daily and correct any faults.
• Liaise with equipment suppliers to maintain and correct equipment operation.
• Monitor fruit temperatures in cold stores and take corrective action.
• Manage carton erection to ensure sufficient supply of erected cartons daily.
• Liaise with Procurement Dept to ensure sufficient cartons and packaging materials are in store.
• Select approved and appropriate chemicals for equipment cleaning and fruit treatment.

Qualifications;

• BSc. food science and post-harvest technology or equivalent.
• Minimum 4-years prior experience.
• Ability to manage teams, empower staff.
• Dynamic self starter with the ability to work independently.
• Ability to apply sound judgment to solve complex business problems.
• Strong leadership skills with ability to influence key stakeholders and  motivate staff.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Monthly gross salary: Ksh. 250,000 - 400,000/= (Approx. 2,500 - 4,000 USD) depending on experience
