Organizational background
The World Food Programme Somalia activities include food assistance for nutrition, livelihoods, relief and emergency school feeding, while also supporting humanitarian air and logistics services, food security coordination and infrastructure rehabilitation projects. This position is open to qualified Somali candidates with good knowledge of the local area. Female candidates in particular, are encouraged to apply.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer and the overall supervision of the Head of Area Office/Sub-Office, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
- Co-ordinate and monitor implementation of WFP food assistance programme;
- Establish cordial working relationship with the local authorities, Cooperating Partners (CPs) and the village leaders;
- Assist in conducting regular meetings with village leaders, CPs and local authorities on the commodity pipeline, distribution arrangements, food entitlements and security;
- Undertake regular field visits to monitor and review the overall commodity movements;
- Supervise the efficient distribution of food items at the sites;
- Report on events regarding food management, distribution and other related issues;
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting by the CPs;
- Assist the Programme Officer and CPs in encouraging women’s access to economic skills development and sensitizing public opinion on gender issues and activities;
- Supervise and train personnel as and when required;
- Perform any other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Secondary school education, supplemented with experience or additional education in education, social services, nutrition, agriculture or other related field.
- At least three years of progressively responsible support experience, including at least one year in the field of statistics, refugee operations, or another related field. Past experience working on nutrition related programmes is a plus. At least one year at the G3 level or equivalent.
- Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Somali.
- Experience utilizing computers, including word processing, spreadsheet and other WFP standard software packages and systems. General knowledge of UN system administrative policies, rules, regulations and procedures.
