Payroll Accountant

Key roles and responsibilities
Timely and accurate processing of the monthly payroll
Timely and accurate processing of the monthly payroll journals
Timely and accurate submission of all statutory deductions such as PAYE, NSSF, NHIF, HELB and other deductions
Maintain accurate records of all monthly uploads
Respond to frequent requests for information, reports, employment verifications, audit requests and reconciliation etc
Timely and accurate update of payroll records for staff advances/deductions, leavers and joiners
Preparation of statutory returns and ensuring compliance to all monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, payments and submission deadlines
Safe custody of all payroll records
Qualifications and experience
Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting/Business Administration or related discipline with at least 4 years work experience in finance and payroll accounting
CPA or ACCA
Excellent awareness of statutory compliance issues in Kenya and general awareness of labour law and practices
Strong excel/data analysis and manipulation skills
Experience with iTAX
Experience with payroll processing software, Multiple payrolls and multi-currency payroll processing
Skills and attributes
High integrity with natural ability to maintain confidentiality and presence of mind when handling payroll and staff matters
Good spoken and written English language skills
Ability to undertake multiple tasks of an engagement gaining management and supervisory skills
Have demonstrable enthusiasm, drive and initiative
Be a team player, capable of coaching and developing payroll staff
Hands on experience with integrated accounting/payroll packages
Attention to details and comfortable with large data sets
