Organizational background
The World Food Programme Somalia activities include food assistance for
nutrition, livelihoods, relief and emergency school feeding, while also
supporting humanitarian air and logistics services, food security coordination
and infrastructure rehabilitation projects.
This position is open to qualified Somali candidates with good
knowledge of the local area. Female candidates in particular, are encouraged to

Major Duties and
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Head of Programme of Galkacyo Area
Office(AO), and technical guidance of the
Head of Nutrition Unit, the position holder will be responsible for
overall nutrition project management in the coverage of Galkacyo AO which includes the design, implementation,
monitoring of programmes , capacity building and coordination:
1. Project design and
implementation
- Advise the head of programme and the CO Nutrition Unit on potential gaps or overlap and assist in programme planning,
- Participate in bi-annual allocation planning exercises,
- Review nutrition proposals to ensure technical compliance,
- In liaison with local authorities, other UN agencies, NGOs, and community members participate in the identification of potential Cooperating Partners (CP),
- Participate in assessing the capacities of potential CPs and the performance of CPs currently implementing projects,
- Stay up to date with other agencies interventions in nutrition or related fields,
- Participate in field assessment missions,
- Review monthly distribution plans,
- Oversee the supply of nutrition-related equipment and consumables to CPs and prepare monthly Non-Food-Item (NFI) stock reports and requests to the CO,
2. Monitoring and Capacity
building
- Oversee timely submission of CP monthly reports and assist the focal point in reviewing reports for consistency,
- Analyse CP performance on nutrition project’s management and advise AO Head of Programme and CO Nutrition Unit,
- Mentor Food Aid Monitors (FAM) on qualitative monitoring of nutrition interventions,
- Undertake field monitoring and on-site CP mentoring visits to ensure adherence to implementation procedures,
- Identify capacity building needs for CP, authorities, and other staff members at the AO and assist management, and the CO nutrition section to plan accordingly,
- Contribute to the preparation of training material, guidelines, information-communication-education (IEC) material, and implementation tools,
- Organise and assist in facilitating trainings and workshops,
3. Representation and
coordination
- Represent WFP at the health, nutrition, and WASH cluster meetings and other technical meetings at field level,
- Participate in the production of Area Office documents,
- Maintain a close working relationship with the CO Nutrition Section,
- Maintain close working relationship with MOH, UNICEF, FSNAU, regional Health Authorities and other stakeholders in the nutrition sector at field level.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: University
degree in nutrition, public health, or a related field
Experience: At least 1 year
post-graduate experience working in nutrition/health in humanitarian
emergencies with progressive responsibilities.
Language: Fluency in
both written and spoken English and Somali language is a requirement.
Knowledge: Fully computer
literate (office package), knowledge of a nutrition survey related software
(ENA for SMART, Anthro, EpiInfo) would be an advantage.
