SENIOR SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR (KENYAN JOBS, JOBS IN KENYA JANUARY 2014)

Title: Senior Systems Administrator (1 Position)
The Kenya Education Network (KENET) is a not-for-profit membership organization that is licensed by the Communications regulator as an Alternative Network Facility Provider. KENET is the National Research and Education Network (NREN) for Kenya that aims to transform and improve the quality of higher education and research using ICT.
KENET provides broadband Internet services and shared services such as web-hosting, virtual servers, remote storage and advanced research services to the higher education community in Kenya. It promotes research collaboration, conducts ICT in education research and pilots innovative learning technologies in collaboration with faculty and students in member institutions. KENET is seeking to fill the following position: Senior Systems Administrator (1 Position)
This position reports to the Lead Network Operations Engineer and will join the core shared service technical team with the responsibility for deployment and support of shared and security services that KENET provides to member institutions. The candidate must be capable of working to accomplish both short term and long-term goals.
Suitable candidates will be expected to have the following qualifications and experience:
  • An undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, computer science or information systems equivalent from a recognized university with proficiency in UNIX and at least one programming language.
  • At least five years’ experience as a systems administratorin an organization with a large IP network and/or a large data center.
  • At least five years experience in deployment and support of large information systems (ERPs) and the technical implementation of information security policies in a medium to large organization
  • Post-graduate degree with specialization in information systems or security will be an added advantage
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English language
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and in a team of ICT professionals
  • Demonstrated high ethical and moral standards
This position shall be on contract terms of three (3) years which shall be renewable based on performance.
