Programme Manager - Democratic Governance
About the Danish Embassy and the candidate
The implementation of the Denmark - Kenya Country Programme 2016-2020 amounting to approximately 15 billion KES has just begun.
The Embassy has more than 50 staff covering Denmark’s broad and close engagement with Kenya and Somalia.
The Embassy is looking for an experienced and hardworking Governance Programme Manager with strong analytical skills and in-depth knowledge of the Kenyan political scene and an extensive network.
We are seeking a team player who will excel in a corporate culture where the tone is informal and we deliver high quality results on time.
We help each other and you contribute to tasks outside your own portfolio.
You have good Knowledge of Development Programme / Project management (including administration, financial management and monitoring).
You also have an excellent understanding of governance and human rights issues and you are eager to share knowledge with and learn from colleagues and sees its as important to meet deadlines.
The work requires travel outside Nairobi
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Programme Manager’s responsibilities include the following:
- Management (including administration, monitoring and evaluation, liaison and dialogue) of the assigned programme portfolio in the of Democratic Governance (civil society support, electoral processes, human rights, access to justice, equality and empowerment) as well as peace, security and stability.
Essential Qualifications:
- Fluent written and oral skills in English.
- A Master’s degree in a relevant area e.g. Economics, Public Administration, Political Science, Development Studies, Law or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- A minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience with a particular focus on Development Programme / Project management (including administration, financial management and monitoring).
- Team player (references will prove the candidate to be a team player)
Asset Qualifications
- Experience working with Development Partners (‘donor’) or international organisation
- Experience working with the Government
- Experience working with civil society
- Experience working within the field of peace, security and stability
- Experience working with electoral processes
- Experience in managing consultancy contracts (including audits, evaluations and reviews)
- Good knowledge of Results Based Management and Monitoring and Evaluation
- Good knowledge of public financial management
- Skilled in MS Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), and other relevant programmes and applications
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of national languages spoken in Kenya
- Ability to manage tasks independently and meeting deadlines
