Description of tasks:
  • Under the direct supervision of The Task Manager, Biodiversity  Enabling activities  the UN Volunteer  will undertake the following tasks:
  • Documenting country updates and progress in preparation of UNCBD and national reporting to the Convention for the Project on preparation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans and other biodiversity enabling activities.
  • Preparing documentation for review of country reports.
  • Drafting and submitting umbrella project’s Projects’ Progress Reports to the UNEP Task Manager
  • Working directly and hand in hand with the Administration Assistant responsible for  the projects in dealing with financial and administrative issues
  • Contributing to the Coordination and updating the project’s M&E system and ensure adequate follow up of the project M&E.
  • Contributing to adequate inter-institutional coordination and stakeholder participation mechanisms during project implementation.
  • Supporting partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders of the project, notably the UNCBD Secretariat.
  • Preparation of work plans and activity reports in consultation with relevant project partners (WCMC).
  • Documenting problems encountered in implementation of the initiatives based on correspondence received at UNEP, and reports filed.
  • Documenting lessons learnt in the implementation of the projects.
  • Managing projects database of individual country projects files (paper and electronic), projects documentation, budgetary and finance records, progress reports, national technical reports,  regional advisor mission reports and correspondence;
  • Keeping an inventory of online activities undertaken as part of technical support to the projects
  • Contribute to adequate compliance of project implementation by Parties with UNEP procedures.
  • Reviewing for completeness and accuracy the periodic technical reports and working with the administration assistant on the financial reports submitted by national projects counterparts;
  • Maintaining electronic technical records describing the progress and status of individual countries activities including expenditure and planned expenditure information, liaising with Funds Management as necessary;
  • Tracking financial and substantive projects reporting and informing Task Manager
  • Supporting administrative coordination of projects implementation activities, involving extensive liaison with the diverse organizational units to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances for internally executed projects;
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Completion of University degree related to Environmental Studies or natural resources or a Technical Diploma or equivalent in natural resources management.
  • A Masters degree in natural resources would be desirable but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of computer applications such as MS office applications (excel, word and power point), knowledge of database software’s an advantage.
  • Ability to operate e-mail and lotus notes
Living Conditions:
Living in Kenya and easy adaptation to living in Nairobi City required.

Conditions of Service 
A 24 months contract; monthly volunteer living allowance (VLA) intended to cover housing, basic needs and utilities, equivalent to KES 62,344.00 settling-in-grant (where applicable); life, health and permanent disability insurance; resettlement allowance of KES 62,344.00 prorated by number of month of satisfactory service
