Introduction
The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) – General Secretariat is the national administrative, facilitative and coordinative arm through which the KCCB implements and co-ordinates various Pastoral programs at the national level and undertakes all those responsibilities which express the mission of the Catholic Church in Kenya.
KCCB is seeking an outstanding, dynamic and results-oriented individual to fill the position of Manager of Donor Relations and Resource Mobilization for its Commission for Education and Religious Education.
Summary
The individual selected for this position will develop and implement a resource mobilization strategy to support the realization of Commission’s strategic plan and growth objectives.
The individual will have the ability to persuasively communicate KCCB’s mission and programs to potential funders.
Primary responsibilities for this position will include preparation of proposals and grant applications through strategizing, defining, researching, identifying, developing and responding to public and private grant opportunities in the areas of faith-based education, health, youth programming faith-based programs, youth, HIV/AIDS, health, education etc.].
The candidate will assemble and submit grant requests to support existing and planned program activities, establish and maintain personal contact and relationships with potentials funders, and maintain a calendar of submissions and other deadlines.Reporting/Supervision
This position will report to the National Executive Secretary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Generate highly competitive grant proposals in response to solicitations
- Generate revenue through timely submission of well-researched, well-written and well-documented grant proposals
- Identify funding opportunities and new program areas to match the KCCB strategic vision; ensure alignment of research with the KCCB / Commission
- Establish quality standards for proposals and concept notes and ensure achievement (through monitoring, mentoring and training)
- Ensure communication and knowledge management are built into every project proposal
- Prepare key documents in coordination with Commission staff, including grant requests, letters, proposals, budgets and presentations
- Develop and maintain database of donors, project concept notes and project proposals
- Assess on a bi-annual basis Commission performance on project development and approval
- Maintain a project tracking system or calendar to and ensure timely submission of proposals and to ensure all donor funding requirements are met; prioritize projects to keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner
- Periodically carry-out donor interest and focus surveys in order to identify trends in donor funding priorities.
Qualifications/Skills
- University degree in Marketing, Communication, Fundraising, Business Administration or related discipline
- Superior knowledge of best practices in international donor relations and fundraising
- At least 5 five years’ experience in international resource mobilization/fundraising and proposal development for a development organization; previous experience will demonstrate a proven track record in securing new funding
- Experience with bilateral, multi-lateral funding agencies, and familiarity with private foundations that fund non-profit organizations
- Ability to research, distinguish and identify funding opportunities for programs
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize, design workflows, and implement strategies and follow up processes; detail-oriented
- Craft funding proposals in a clear and compelling manner by synthesizing complex or diverse information; excellent English writing skills and interpersonal skills are essential
- Ability to effectively work under pressure, use independent judgment, and produce quality work products within tight time constraints
- Proficiency in MS Office and other computer skills; familiarity with funding databases a plus
- Experience developing and implementing marketing strategies
- Solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants
- Work collaboratively and independently to achieve stated goals; ability to work under minimum supervision; self-motivated
- Knowledge of social teachings of the Church, and ethical principles
- Familiar with issues prevalent in underserved communities
