DRIP IRRIGATION SUPERVISOR (JOBS AND VACANCIES IN KENYA SEPTEMBER 2013)

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (LWC), based in Isiolo Kenya, is an organization, which works as a catalyst for the conservation of wildlife and its habitat.  We invite applications for the position of a Drip Irrigation Supervisor. This position reports to the Community Development Manager. The primary purpose of this position is installation and management of the drip irrigation systems in the Lewa Supported Schools with the main objective of the schools producing food for their feeding programmes. The schools are located around Lewa and almost all are easily accessible.  The contract will be for eighteen months (18), with a possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funds
Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Coordinating crop production within the Lewa Sponsored schools that are beneficiaries of the drip irrigation system.
  • Development of a comprehensive, relevant technical capacity building programme within each of the respective schools.
  • Ensuring all schools have all the drip irrigation provisions they need and are trained on using them appropriately
  • Synchronizing the crop rotation in the school shambas
  • Managing the drip systems in the various schools
  • Train and ensure the school management maintains proper records of the input and output from the shambas.
  • Act as a resource person to the Lewa communities on best practice in drip farming.
  • Maintain the drip irrigation infrastructure

Required Skills, Responsibilities and Abilities
  • Diploma holder in Agri-business course from a recognized institution.
  • 2 Year experience of farm production
  • Proficient in computer packages.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities, supervisory and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to organise time, manage diverse activities and meet deadlines.
  • Should have motorbike riding skills with a valid driving license since this will be the mode of transport.
