Position: Radiographer technologist   
 
Reporting: Radiology technologist in-charge
Liason: All departments

Our client a re-known Hospital in Nairobi targeting the middle and low income communities is in the processes of increasing its service delivery effectiveness. This has necessitated the need to urgently hire a Radiographer.
Job Summary - Performing diagnostic imaging examinations like x rays, ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and mammography as may be required.
Key Duties and responsibilities
  • Performing diagnostic imaging examinations like x rays, ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and mammography as may be required.
  • Producing x-ray films (radiographs) of parts of the human body for use in diagnosing medical problems.
  • Preparation of patients for radiologic examinations by explaining the procedure, drinking water before ultrasound, removing jewelry and other articles through which x rays cannot pass, and positioning patients so that the parts of the body can be appropriately radiographed.
  • Preventing unnecessary exposure to radiation, those workers and visitors surrounding the exposed area with radiation protection devices, such as lead shields, or limit the size of the x-ray beam.
  • Positioning radiographic equipment at the correct angle and height over the appropriate area of a patient’s body.
  • Following physicians’ and radiologist orders precisely and conform to regulations concerning the use of radiation to protect themselves, their patients, and their coworkers from unnecessary exposure.
  • Keeping patient records and adjusting and maintaining equipments used in the radiology department.
  • Preparation of work-schedules, evaluate purchases of equipment, or manage a radiology department.
  • Perform more complex imaging procedures when performing fluoroscopies, for example, radiologic technologists prepare a solution for the patient to drink, allowing the radiologist (a physician who interprets radiographs) to see soft tissues in the body.
  • Using radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.
  • Explaining procedures and observing patients to ensure safety and comfort during procedures.
  • Demonstrating new equipment, procedures, and techniques to staff, and providing technical assistance.
  • Collaborating with other radiology technicians in designing SOPs for the department
  • Collaborating with medical team members, such as physicians and nurses, to conduct angiography or special vascular procedures.
  • Performing administrative duties such as developing departmental operating budget, coordinating purchases of supplies and equipment and preparing work schedules.
  • Performing and ensuring scheduled maintenance and minor emergency repairs on radiographic equipment.
  • Perform any other duties as may be required by the hospital/immediate supervisor
Qualification, Competencies required
  • Have a diploma in medical imaging from KMTC.  A higher diploma in ultrasound is an added advantage
  • Be registered by the radiation protection Board
  • Have a current valid private practice license
  • Have an experience of not less than two years in a busy centre
  • Be able to do and report ultrasounds.
  • Knowledge of doing Barium meal, Barium Swallow and Barium follow will be an added advantage
