LOGISTICS/OPERATIONS OFFICERS

Westcon Africa is a Value Added Distributor of category-leading unified communications, network infrastructure, datacenter and security solutions with a global network of specialty resellers with international presence in Kenya, 9 other countries within Africa and a global network. We work to create unique programs and provide exceptional financial and technical support to accelerate the business of our partners building and maintaining strong relationships at every level of the Westcon organization to enable our partners receive support tailored to their needs.
Main responsibilities 

  • Respond to customers’ and shippers’ questions and complaints regarding imports, deliveries, stock and goods in transit.
  • Issue shipping instructions and provide routing information to ensure that delivery times and locations are coordinated.
  • Review Monthly production schedules, consumption reports, and demand forecasts to estimate peak and delivery timings.
  • Daily update of relevant database and documents with confirmed consignment movements to ensure visibility to all users.
  • Negotiate and conclude ocean transportation arrangements with shipping lines, including the chartering of vessels, on either a short or long-term basis or ad-hoc individual rate agreements.
  • Consolidate and plan shipments both for quotation to the liner market and for presentation to the charter market.
  • Supervise the performance of organization appointed shipping and forwarding agents, stevedores and other ancillary contractors at load ports of discharge.
  • Liaise closely with agents and suppliers to ensure that cargo readiness matches vessels arrival.
  • Complete the necessary management reports as required
  • Any other duties as assigned by management

Key Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain management/Purchasing and logistics, Commerce/ Operations Management or an equivalent
  • At least 3 years working experience, in a similar role (within the industry – preferred)
  • Any relevant professional certifications/ courses (preferred)
  • Key competencies: 
  • Proven ability to conceptualize, innovate, plan and execute ideas and systems.
  • Good analytical and negotiating skills.
  • Good knowledge of computer management and applications.
  • Excellent communication skills; written and spoken
