Title:
Project Assistant (Research Nurse)
AMREF Kenya is looking for an individual, who is
well-organized, highly motivated and results oriented to join a dynamic team
and help bring lasting health change in Africa. Under the Research, Advocacy
and Business Development (RABD) Department, the WelTel Retain Project is funded by
University of British Columbia and is looking at recruiting a Project Assistant
to assist in research to determine whether the WelTel text messaging
intervention cost effectively promotes pre ART patient retention in care.
Purpose
of the Job
The Project Assistant – Research Nurse will assist in facilitating the
implementation of the WelTel Retain Trial. S/he will be responsible for
ensuring all pre ART patients at the study sites are adequately informed
about the research study, recruitment and follow up of eligible participants
and administering the WelTel Retain mobile phone intervention.
Key
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in screening and recruiting study participants.
- Administer consent, baseline and follow up questionnaires and ensure accurate documentation of research data.
- Obtain laboratory samples from the participants and label them accurately and clearly.
- Send weekly text messages to the study participants and triage their problems.
- Ensure accurate follow up and documentation of communications with study participants.
- Counsel and offer health information to study participants.
- In collaboration with the Health Facility staff, refer study participants who need specialized attention to the relevant providers.
- Ensure that the confidentiality of any information relating to practices and services of AMREF and the WelTel Retain research project, acquired in the course of duty is maintained.
- Attend and participate in collaborative, management and clinic meetings.
- Contribute to academic and scholarly advancement of the project.
Qualifications
and Competencies
- The ideal candidate must hold a first degree in Nursing, with at least three (3) years of relevant work experience and ICT proficient.
- Must be a Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse and have a valid practice license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Should have experience in HIV/AIDS care and treatment and clinical research.
- Experience in research, study design, research methodology, data analysis, report writing, dissemination for various audiences are an added advantage.
- The candidate should have strong analytical, problem-solving and networking skills.
- Should be a team player and a good communicator and the ability to work in a multicultural environment with minimum supervision.
