Purpose:
Interns for Complains and Investigations and Redress Departments
2 Positions
Duration: 12 months
Duty Station: Nairobi, with occasional field visits
The Kenya
National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) is an independent National Human
Rights Institution created by Article 59 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and
established by the Government of Kenya through an Act of Parliament (the Kenya
National Commission on Human Rights Act, 2011) and under the United Nations
Paris Principles.
KNCHR’s
mandate includes furthering the protection and promotion of human rights in
Kenya, acting as a watchdog over the Government in the area of human rights,
and the provision of leadership in moving the country towards a human rights
state.
KNCHR fulfills
its human rights mandate through a number of programmes, including Research and
Compliance, Public Education and Training, Complaints and Investigations, Redress and Economic,
Social and Cultural Rights.
The
Commission’s main office is in Nairobi with three regional offices in Wajir,
Kitale and Mombasa. Officers may serve in the Head Office or in any of the
regional offices.
KNCHR hereby
invites applications for the following positions in its head office:
Key
Duties
Assist in programme implementations.
Assisting in running and maintaining the KNCHR’s various programme
Any other task that may be assigned by Commissioners, the Secretary to the
Commission and Programme Officers.
Key
Qualifications and Competencies
Holder of a Degree and a post graduate Diploma in Law from a recognised
institution
Excellent IT skills, with working knowledge of the various packages.
Must be able to work effectively and take guidance from seniors.
Excellent inter-personal and communication skills.
Proven research, writing and communication capability
Some exposure in a relevant field will be an added advantage

In addition to the above qualifications for the suitable candidate should

Attention to detail
Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
