Program/Department Summary:
The Mercy Corps’ Talent Acquisition (TA) Team’s mandate is to identify exceptional talent to advance Mercy Corps’ mission. As part of the Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness (LOE) Team, the TA Team is committed to partnering internally to find the best and brightest. The aim of the LOE team is to attract, develop, retain and support Mercy Corps’s global talent. The goal of the recruiting team is to ensure Mercy Corps has a diverse high performing global team whose talents are consistent with Mercy Corps strategic business needs.
General Position Summary:
We seek a high energy individual who is an exceptional relationship builder and employs creative approaches to sourcing talent. The Recruiter works as part of the TA team responsible for selecting top talent for US and Expatriate positions. The Recruiter is responsible for full cycle recruitment including designing and implementing effective strategies, building collaborative internal relationships and effective external networks. S/he will increase Mercy Corps’ talent pool to ensure the agency’s global talent is representative of the communities we serve and is able to responding to the changing needs of the organization. S/he will implement industry “best practices” to recruit for individuals who are aligned with the organizational culture while building Mercy Corps as an employer of choice.    
Essential job functions:
Operations - Talent Acquisition
  • Take ownership for the recruiting, sourcing and identification of talent including proactive discussions with regional and country management for succession planning, retention and recruitment for proposals.
  • Deepen and widen the talent pools that Mercy Corps has access to and support senior level recruitment as requested.
  • Provide responsive, high-quality service to candidates with additional care for internal or former team members.
  • Expand the capacity of hiring teams to identify talent via improved interview skills & ability to specify critical needs.
  • Execute full lifecycle talent acquisition activities for roles across Africa and other regions as assigned, multiple disciplines and levels within the relief and development field.

Strategy
  • Advance the agency’s aim to have a global team that is representative of the places where we work, with a particular focus on leadership positions.
  • Track and identify cutting edge trends and best practices in global recruitment practices.
  • Lead the initiative to realign the recruitment process to be consistent with Mercy Corps’ Leadership competency model.
  • Contribute to the broader LOE team by actively participating in initiatives as needed.

Collaboration & Networking
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with talent sources in the region(s) assigned including technical networks, thought leaders, academic institutions, and private sector.
  • Assist in promoting Mercy Corps as an employer of choice by attending events, promoting through social media, job boards and developing talent communities.
  • Build effective partnerships with internal stakeholders to support current needs and develop plans for future needs.
  • Collaborate with all members of the LOE team to develop best practices, promote continuous improvement and foster information/idea sharing.

Organizational Learning:
As part of our commitment to organizational learning and in support of our understanding that learning organizations are more effective, efficient and relevant to the communities they serve - we expect all team members to commit 5% of their time to learning activities that benefit Mercy Corps as well as themselves.
Accountability to Beneficiaries: Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts towards accountability, specifically to our beneficiaries and to international standards guiding international relief and development work, while actively engaging beneficiary communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.
Knowledge And Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in human resources, business administration, social science or relevant field.
  • 5+ years of experience with recruitment/talent acquisition within E Africa.
  • Advanced experience with successful sourcing strategies for globally representative and diverse candidates.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to create, implement, maintain and improve recruitment strategies and systems in a high-volume context.
  • Ability to travel within E Africa and globally required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, internet searching, and applicant tracking systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of staffing in international relief and development environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across diverse cultures and geographical distances with sensitivity.
  • Kenya work authorization required.
  • Language skills in French or Arabic preferred.

S/he will possess the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, while remaining focused on the quality of internal and external relationships and will be able to work effectively as a member of a highly visible team whose performance is key to the enduring success of Mercy Corps. S/he will be flexible, resilient, possess sound judgment and have a good sense of humor.
Living /Environmental Conditions:
This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya and work on weekends and evenings may be required. Periodic travel is required to support recruitment needs or attend regional conferences in areas where Mercy Corp operates.
Mercy Corps Team members represent the agency both during and outside of work hours when deployed in a field posting or on a visit/TDY to a field posting. Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC's policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
