Description
Program description: This
program is a collaboration between the Kenya Medical Research Institute and the
US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It involves conducting research
and program support for activities related to malaria, HIV and other diseases.
It is
within this remit that the program has a vacancy in the HISS Branch -DBS
VL STUDY
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor of Sciences in Biomedical Sciences or a related field from a recognized Institution
- Experience in performing basic clinical diagnostic techniques, HIV molecular diagnosis tests and related Laboratory quality assurance / quality control measures
- Minimum of one year experience preferably in clinical/research laboratories
- Must be registered with the KMLTTB
Desired Qualities
- Good knowledge in laboratory documentation, good record keeping and inventory management
- Experience in sample collection, HIV serology, HIV-1 RNA and DNA PCR assays for HIV diagnosis
- Hard working, diligent and ready to work in a multidisciplinary environment
- Basic computer application skills or packages
- Ability to work well in a team and to collaborate with counterparts
Responsibilities and Tasks
- Perform all aspects of HIV research laboratory work necessary to support diagnosis and epidemiological research
- Ensure adequate stock of reagents and other consumables are available and track usage. Maintain laboratory QC/QA in the performance of assigned duties
- Record test results obtained in an organized and timely manner, write summary reports based on work assigned
- Report all problems encountered with encountered with samples/equipments to the immediate supervisor in a timely manner.
- Observe at all times GCP/GCLP to ensure quality work is attained.
- Liaise with collaborating program to receive and track samples and reporting of test results
- Perform any other duty as assigned by the Laboratory Director or designee
Terms of Employment:
One year contract renewable
as per KEMRI scheme of service and a Probation period for the first 3 months.
Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on
education levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The salary
scheme is based on the KEMRI scales plus supplemental amounts.
